LEARNING TODAY, FOR THE CHALLENGES OF TOMORROW
The Board of Trustees (BOT) is a group of elected people who are responsible for governance and control the management of the school; the board is entrusted to work on behalf of the stakeholders (the wider community). The board delegates all authority and accountability for the day-to-day operational organisation of the school to the Principal.
The BOT is responsible for determining the direction in which the school is heading. This occurs only after a great deal of consultation with parents, staff and students of the school to ensure that the school is providing the highest quality of education possible and a safe place in which students can learn.
The BOT is about enhancing student achievement; this requires each key player to fully undertake their responsibilities. An uncompromising commitment to the ongoing improvement of student achievement must be paramount for all trustees. Enhancing achievement for ALL students is our major focus.
What does the BOT do? While the ultimate authority for the school system rests with the Ministry of Education, others have key roles in the delivery of education. Parents and caregivers, students, principals, and staff all contribute as members of the education partnership through the BOT.
Every Board must prepare and maintain a School Charter. The purpose of a School Charter is to establish the mission, aims, objectives, directions, and targets of the Board in relation to the Government's national education guidelines (NEGs), national administration guidelines (NAGs) and the Board's local priorities.
The Board therefore sets the destination for the school and has the overall responsibility for the school; the Board does not interfere in the day-to-day running of the school. The Principal sets the course to reach the destination; the Principal monitors and provides feedback to the Board on progress towards those goals.
The BOT meets each month and reports back to their community in the following ways:
* Beaconsfield School newsletters available here under Newsletter;
* Board meeting minutes available here under Board Minutes;
* The Annual Meeting - the annual report is presented (this report includes all matters relevant to and required by the School Charter);
* When required, consultation documents are circulated to parents and the school community to make submissions on; and
* All reports are available to be read at the school and are available here under Board Talk.

Barry and I have been happily married for... far too long. We have two daughters; Murphy (year 10 at Timaru Girls High School) and Naeve (year 5). Barry and I moved to South Canterbury from the Coromandel 16 years ago. But we are both originally from sunny Southland - the immediate past home (once again) of the Ranfurly Shield!
Murphy started her schooling at Salisbury. When Salisbury was closed we looked at other schools in our area for a school that had a strong academic record, which would foster the individuality of our children and provide an excellent learning environment, supported by enthusiastic and motivated teaching staff. We found that Beaconsfield offered all this and a bus service.
Beaconsfield has all the necessary components to provide our children with the tools to not only thrive and be successful in the world as we know it but in a future that we can only imagine.
I believe that every child should be encouraged and supported to achieve their full potential.
The "rural-ness" of Beaconsfield fosters a sense of community and belonging in its students that is priceless in today’s society.
It is a privilege to be Chairperson of Beaconsfield School.

Hello. This is my second term as a BOT member. I’m married to Belinda and we have two sons; Jacob (year 9 at Timaru Boys High School) and Oli who attends Beaconsfield School (year 6).
Being a member of the BOT represents an opportunity and a challenge to find out more about what is happening in the school and to be involved.
I have found being a board trustee to be an enriching and rewarding experience, and believe that the board is making a positive difference to our students achievement.
We face complex challenges: ensuring that our children’s education is adaptable enough to respond to and reflect the strengths, aspirations and needs of each and every one of our students in a knowledge based society of the 21st century – Learning Today, For The Challenges Of Tomorrow.
I hope to ensure that our core focus remains on improving student achievement. This will require a conscious effort to look for areas where improvement is needed and take the necessary steps to make this happen.

Like many of us at Beaconsfield my origins are from within the school catchment. In 2005 we moved back to South Canterbury to be closer to relatives and enjoy a more balanced lifestyle.
Trish and I have Alex, Hamish and Grace. Hamish and Grace still attend Beaconsfield School. I am now in my second term as a trustee since the 2010 elections. I’ve enjoyed contributing to the school as a trustee, and have learnt much. With a term under my belt I feel I do provide a greater level of support to the school with the training and experience I have received in my first term.
The school has successfully come through a series of merges and it is gratifying to see our community a stronger, better resourced, cohesive entity. We have recently undergone significant inevitable staff changes and as a result I’m excited when looking ahead, by the enthusiasm and calibre of our staff. While the addition of an extra classroom indicates an expected roll growth, I expect that the children’s’ individual successes will be our most rewarding achievements through the teacher, parent partnerships fostered.
I want to continue developing this learning environment, as we face the future challenges.
